An extractiemiddel, or extraction agent, is a substance used to separate a desired compound from a mixture. This process, known as extraction, relies on the differential solubility or partitioning of components between two immiscible phases. Typically, one phase is a liquid, and the other is either another liquid or a solid.

The choice of extractiemiddel is crucial and depends on the chemical properties of the substance to be extracted and the matrix from which it is being separated. For liquid-liquid extraction, the extractiemiddel is a solvent that dissolves the target compound more readily than the original solvent, while being immiscible with it.
