erhvervsstyrelsen
Erhvervsstyrelsen, known in English as the Danish Business Authority, is a Danish government agency under the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs. The agency is responsible for fostering a simple, transparent business environment and for the regulation, supervision, and administration of business activity in Denmark. Its core tasks include maintaining the Central Business Register (CVR), which contains information on all registered companies and other legal entities, handling company formation and registration, and processing changes such as reorganization, mergers, or dissolution. It also provides guidance on Danish company law, corporate governance, and other regulatory requirements that affect businesses, and administers licensing and oversight regimes for activities that require government authorization. The agency leads the digital interface between businesses and public authorities, most prominently through the Virk platform, which enables company registration, reporting, and interaction with public services. Erhvervsstyrelsen collaborates with other government bodies, such as the Tax Agency and data protection authorities, to ensure compliance and coherent policy, and it participates in EU and national efforts to harmonize business regulation and competition rules. The agency publishes information and statistics relating to the Danish business sector and supports public-sector digitalization initiatives that streamline administrative processes for enterprises.
