epididüümi
Epididüümi is a long, coiled tube that lies on the back of the testicle. Its primary function is to store and mature sperm. Sperm produced in the testes are immature and immobile. As they travel through the epididymis, they undergo changes that allow them to become motile and capable of fertilizing an egg. The epididymis is divided into three parts: the head (caput), body (corpus), and tail (cauda). The head is where sperm first enter from the efferent ductules, and the tail is where they are stored. The walls of the epididymis are lined with cells that secrete fluids, which aid in sperm maturation and provide a protective environment. During ejaculation, muscular contractions of the epididymis propel the mature sperm into the vas deferens, which then carries them to the urethra. The epididymis is a crucial component of the male reproductive system, ensuring that sperm are fully developed and ready for their role in fertilization. It is a sensitive organ, and conditions affecting it can impact male fertility.
