Endothelins are a family of potent vasoconstrictor peptides consisting of three isoforms: endothelin-1 (ET-1), endothelin-2 (ET-2), and endothelin-3 (ET-3). Endothelin-2 (ET-2) is a peptide produced by various tissues, including the skin and kidneys. It is synthesized as a preproendothelin that is cleaved to produce mature ET-2.

ET-2 exerts its effects by binding to specific endothelin receptors, primarily ET_A and ET_B receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors.
