Elementending is a term used in some linguistic and data annotation contexts to describe a conventional suffix attached to an element-related base in order to signal classification, grammatical function, or semantic category. The concept is not widely standardized and is mainly encountered in niche discussions, constructed languages (conlangs), or specialized corpora annotation schemes.

In linguistic morphology, researchers examine how element bases may take different endings to form derived words such as adjectives, nouns, or plurals, with endings encoding properties like element class (for example metallic versus nonmetallic) or role in a predicate. The study of elementending can contribute to cross-linguistic typology and to discussions about how languages pattern element-related vocabulary.

In computational linguistics and data annotation, elementending may refer to a tagging practice in which an element term is suffixed with a marker to standardize its representation. For instance, in a hypothetical corpus, “neon” and “argon” might appear as “neon-EL” and “argon-EL” to indicate element-label tokens; another system might use “-A” for adjectives or “-N” for nouns. The choice of ending schemes affects search, normalization, and machine learning tasks.
