Elektrostaatiliste refers to phenomena related to static electricity. Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. This imbalance occurs when there is a transfer of electrons between objects, often through friction. When two different materials rub against each other, electrons can be stripped from one and attach to the other, leaving one object positively charged and the other negatively charged.

These charges tend to remain in place unless they are able to move away, hence the term "static." When the imbalance of charge becomes large enough, it can discharge suddenly, creating a visible spark or a small electric shock. Common examples of electrostaatiliste phenomena include the way a balloon can stick to a wall after being rubbed on hair, the crackling sound heard when taking off a sweater in dry conditions, or the buildup of static charge on electronic components, which can damage them. The study of these electric charges at rest is known as electrostatics. This field explores concepts such as electric fields, electric potential, capacitance, and the forces between stationary charges.
