Elektromágnes is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Electromagnets usually consist of a wire wound into a coil. When an electric current is passed through the wire, the coil generates a magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field depends on the number of turns in the coil and the amount of current flowing through it.

The magnetic field of an electromagnet can be turned on and off by controlling the electric current. This makes electromagnets very useful in many applications. They are used in devices such as electric motors, generators, relays, loudspeakers, magnetic storage devices, MRI scanners, and in scientific research.

When the electric current is switched off, the magnetic field disappears. This is in contrast to permanent magnets, which retain their magnetism over time. The core of an electromagnet is often made of a ferromagnetic material, such as iron, which greatly increases the strength of the magnetic field. The material of the core and the shape of the coil are important factors in determining the performance of an electromagnet.
