eindkost

Eindkost is a Dutch term that literally translates to "end cost" or "final cost." In accounting and project management, it refers to the total cost incurred for a product, service, or project when it is completed, i.e., the cumulative sum of all costs from inception to finish. The term is widely used in Dutch-language budgeting and cost reporting to indicate the real or actual cost at project close, as distinct from initial estimates or stage-by-stage budgets.

Calculation and components. The eindkost typically includes direct costs (materials, labor, subcontractors), indirect costs (overhead, depreciation, management time), and external costs (shipping, installation, testing, permit fees). Contingencies or risk allowances may be included or tracked separately to reflect uncertainties. Taxes and financing costs may be included depending on context.

Usage. In procurement and construction, eindkost informs profitability analysis, pricing strategies, and post-project reviews. It helps compare actual final costs against budgets and contract targets, facilitating variances analysis and lessons learned.

Differences from related terms. The eindkost is not necessarily the same as the final charged price to a customer, which may include margins, taxes, and rebates. It also differs from the initial budget or tendered cost, which may be revised as the project progresses.
