Edustustukset is the Finnish term for diplomatic representations of one state in another or in international organizations. In general usage it covers embassies, consulates, and permanent missions, as well as similar offices such as trade representations or cultural missions. An embassy, usually located in the host country's capital, is headed by an ambassador and coordinates bilateral political relations, diplomacy, and reporting. A consulate, located in other cities, provides consular services to citizens and assists with visas, passport services, and local economic and cultural links. Permanent missions represent a state at international organizations, such as the United Nations, and handle multilateral diplomacy and coordination with those bodies.
