Dormência, also known as paresthesia, is a medical symptom characterized by a sensation of numbness, tingling, or "pins and needles" in a part of the body. This altered sensation typically occurs when a nerve is compressed, irritated, or damaged. Common causes include prolonged pressure on a nerve, such as from sitting or sleeping in an awkward position. Other causes can be more serious and include medical conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and stroke. The affected area may also experience a loss of feeling, weakness, or a burning sensation.
The duration of dormancy can vary greatly, from temporary sensations that resolve quickly after pressure is
