Dispergointivärjäys refers to a dyeing process used for synthetic fibers, particularly polyester. The term itself is derived from the nature of the dyes involved, which are finely dispersed particles that do not dissolve in water but remain suspended. These disperse dyes are small, non-ionic molecules that are insoluble in water.

The dyeing process typically involves heating the dye bath to temperatures between 100°C and 130°C, often under pressure. This elevated temperature allows the dye molecules to penetrate the tightly packed structure of the synthetic fibers. The dye particles are first dispersed in the dyebath with the help of dispersing agents, which prevent them from agglomerating.

Once the fiber is heated, the dye molecules can move into the amorphous regions of the polymer structure. Upon cooling, the dye molecules become trapped within the fiber, resulting in a colored textile. Dispergointivärjäys is known for its good fastness properties, including lightfastness and washfastness, on hydrophobic fibers like polyester, acetate, and nylon. The choice of dispersing agent and dyeing conditions is crucial for achieving even coloration and optimal dye uptake.
