diplonttisessa
Diplonttisessa is a Finnish term referring to a specific type of life cycle found in many diploid organisms. In a diplontic life cycle, the only haploid cells are the gametes (sperm and egg). All other cells in the organism are diploid, meaning they contain two sets of chromosomes. This is in contrast to haplontic or haplo-diplontic life cycles where haploid or both haploid and diploid stages are multicellular.
During sexual reproduction in a diplontic life cycle, two haploid gametes fuse to form a diploid zygote.
Many familiar organisms exhibit a diplontic life cycle, including humans and most animals. Plants, on the other
