Dikton is a fictional ceramic material that has appeared in theoretical discussions of high-temperature ceramics and in educational materials intended to illustrate trade-offs in ceramic design. It is described as a crystalline oxide with a layered framework that provides structural stability at elevated temperatures.

In the standard fictional model, dikton forms a compact, anisotropic lattice similar to layered titanates and silicates. The material is typically depicted as comprising a network of oxide octahedra with interlayer regions that can accommodate defects without catastrophic failure, enabling discussions of processing and performance.

Reported properties in the model include a melting point above 1800°C, a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, high hardness (Mohs scale around 9), and excellent chemical inertness to common acids and bases at room temperature. Thermal conductivity is variable in different thought-experiment scenarios, reflecting the hypothetical nature of the material.

Synthesis and history are also fictional; the concept was introduced in academic thought experiments in the late 1990s and has since served as a benchmark for explaining processing-structure–property relationships in ceramics.
