Dihydroxyacetone, commonly known as dihydroxyacetone or DHA, is a simple ketotriose with the chemical formula C3H6O3. Its IUPAC name is 1,3-dihydroxy-2-propanone. The molecule contains a carbonyl group on the middle carbon (C2) and hydroxyl groups on C1 and C3, giving the structural formula HO-CH2-CO-CH2-OH. In aqueous solution, DHA can form hydrated and other isomeric forms, and it is the simplest sugar that contains a ketone functional group.
