Dicromáticas refers to a type of color vision deficiency where an individual perceives colors based on only two primary colors, instead of the usual three. This condition is often referred to as dichromacy. The most common forms of dicromacy are protanopia and deuteranopia, which affect the perception of red and green light, and tritanopia, which affects the perception of blue and yellow light.

Protanopia is characterized by a lack of the red cone photoreceptor, while deuteranopia is due to a malfunctioning green cone photoreceptor. In both cases, individuals have difficulty distinguishing between reds and greens, and these colors may appear as shades of yellow or gray. Tritanopia, less common, results from a deficiency in the blue cone photoreceptor, leading to difficulties in distinguishing blues from greens and yellows from reds.

Dicromacy is typically a congenital condition, meaning it is present from birth and is usually inherited. It is more prevalent in males than females due to the genes for red and green color vision being located on the X chromosome. While dicromacy cannot be cured, individuals often adapt to their altered color perception. Diagnosis is usually made through specialized color vision tests.
