Detrusor, or the detrusor muscle, is the smooth muscle layer of the urinary bladder wall. It forms the muscularis propria and contracts to expel urine during micturition. The detrusor is organized into interlacing smooth muscle bundles arranged in inner longitudinal, middle circular, and outer longitudinal orientations, allowing the bladder wall to thicken uniformly when contracting.
Innervation and control begin with the autonomic nervous system. Parasympathetic fibers from the pelvic nerves (S2–S4)
Clinical relevance arises from disorders of detrusor function. Detrusor overactivity involves involuntary contractions during filling, contributing
