Deszorpción is a term used in chemistry and physics to describe the process by which a substance that has been adsorbed onto a surface is released from that surface. Adsorption is the process where atoms, ions, or molecules from a substance are attached to a surface, forming a film. Deszorpción is the reverse of this process, where the adsorbed substance detaches and returns to its original phase, such as a gas or liquid.

The deszorpción process can be driven by various factors. One common mechanism is an increase in temperature. Higher temperatures provide the adsorbed molecules with more kinetic energy, allowing them to overcome the attractive forces holding them to the surface. This is known as thermal deszorpción. Another factor is a decrease in pressure, particularly in gas-phase adsorption. Lowering the pressure reduces the concentration of the adsorbate in the surrounding environment, shifting the equilibrium towards deszorpción.

The rate of deszorpción is influenced by the strength of the interaction between the adsorbate and the substrate. Weak interactions, such as van der Waals forces, lead to faster deszorpción, while strong interactions, like chemisorption where chemical bonds are formed, require more energy to break and thus deszorb more slowly. Understanding deszorpción is crucial in many scientific and industrial applications, including catalysis, chromatography, and vacuum technology.
