Desenvolvível is a term used in geometry to describe a surface that can be flattened onto a plane without stretching or tearing. Think of a piece of paper; it is a flat, two-dimensional surface that can be easily manipulated. A developable surface is the three-dimensional equivalent of this. The key characteristic is that the Gaussian curvature of a developable surface is always zero. Gaussian curvature is a measure of how much a surface is curved at a particular point. If the Gaussian curvature is zero, the surface is essentially flat in all directions at that point, allowing it to be unrolled into a plane.

Examples of developable surfaces include cylinders, cones, and tangent planes. A cylinder can be unrolled into a rectangle, and a cone can be unrolled into a sector of a circle. The tangent plane to any point on any surface is also a developable surface. Non-developable surfaces, such as a sphere or a torus, have non-zero Gaussian curvature and cannot be flattened without distortion.
