dependientemente

Dependientemente is an adverb used in Spanish and, in similar form, in Portuguese, derived from the adjective dependiente with the adverbial suffix -mente. It describes a manner that is dependent on something or, in fixed expressions, indicates conditionality. In everyday Spanish, however, speakers often prefer phrases such as dependiente de, según, or en función de to express dependence; dependientemente is more common in formal, technical, or mathematical writing to denote a relationship where one quantity varies with another.

In usage, dependientemente can be found in contexts that specify dependence or conditionality. For example, a sentence might say that a variable changes dependientemente de another variable, meaning the change occurs in relation to that variable. It is important to distinguish this sense from the collocation independientemente de, which means regardless of or independent of a factor; in such contexts, independientemente de is typically preferred for stating exceptions or universal applicability.

In Portuguese, dependentemente serves a parallel function: it means in a dependent manner or dependently. It appears in technical language and can describe relationships where one element relies on or varies with another. The related form independente, or independente de/independentemente de, expresses independence or lack of dependence.
