Deoksühemoglobiin is a form of hemoglobin that has released its oxygen molecules. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs. When hemoglobin binds to oxygen, it is called oxyhemoglobin. As oxygen is delivered to tissues where it is needed for cellular respiration, hemoglobin releases it, transforming into deoxygenated hemoglobin.

The color of hemoglobin changes depending on whether it is bound to oxygen or not. Oxyhemoglobin is bright red, giving oxygenated blood its characteristic color. Deoxygenated hemoglobin, on the other hand, is a darker, purplish-red color, which is why deoxygenated blood appears darker. This difference in color is observable in veins beneath the skin, which often appear bluish due to the deoxygenated blood they contain.
