Dentinbonding refers to the process of adhering restorative materials, such as composite resins or cements, to dentin, the layer of tooth structure beneath the enamel. This is a crucial step in modern restorative dentistry, enabling more conservative and aesthetically pleasing treatments. Dentin, unlike enamel, is a more complex substrate to bond to due to its higher water content and the presence of organic material. The objective of dentinbonding is to create a durable micromechanical and/or chemical bond between the restorative material and the dentin surface. This bond helps to prevent microleakage, which can lead to secondary decay, postoperative sensitivity, and restoration failure.
