Demagnetointimenetelmä, known in English as demagnetization method, refers to techniques used to remove or significantly reduce the magnetic field of a material. This process is essential in various scientific and industrial applications where residual magnetism can be problematic.

One common demagnetization method involves using an alternating magnetic field. The object to be demagnetized is placed within a coil that generates a strong alternating magnetic field. This field is gradually reduced in strength, or the object is slowly withdrawn from the field. As the alternating field reverses direction, it progressively randomizes the magnetic domains within the material. When the external field reaches zero, the domains are left in a disordered state, resulting in a net magnetic moment close to zero.

Another approach is thermal demagnetization. This method relies on heating the material above its Curie temperature, which is the point at which a ferromagnetic material loses its permanent magnetism. Once heated above this temperature, the material is cooled in the absence of an external magnetic field. As it cools, it is less likely to develop a strong net magnetic moment.

Mechanical methods can also be employed, such as repeatedly striking or vibrating the magnetized object. These physical disturbances can help to dislodge magnetic domains from their aligned positions, thereby reducing the overall magnetism. The choice of demagnetization method depends on the material's properties, the required level of demagnetization, and the specific application.
