A delugesüsteem, often translated as a deluge system, is a type of fire suppression system that floods an entire area with water. Unlike sprinkler systems which activate only at the point of fire, a deluge system releases water from all open nozzles simultaneously. This is achieved by a detection system, such as heat detectors or smoke detectors, that triggers a deluge valve. Once the deluge valve opens, water flows under pressure through the piping network to all the sprinkler heads, which are designed to remain open at all times.

Deluge systems are typically employed in high-hazard areas where a rapid and widespread fire could develop quickly, and where the presence of a fire is likely to be accompanied by a significant temperature increase. Examples include oil refineries, chemical plants, aircraft hangars, and areas with large quantities of flammable liquids. The primary advantage of a deluge system is its ability to deliver a large volume of water over a wide area very quickly, which is effective in controlling or extinguishing fast-spreading fires and cooling surrounding structures to prevent fire escalation.

The system consists of a network of pipes, open sprinkler heads, a deluge valve, and a detection system. The deluge valve acts as a control mechanism, holding back water until it is activated by the detection system. When activated, the valve opens, allowing water to flow to all open nozzles. The design and installation of deluge systems require careful consideration of water supply, pressure, and coverage to ensure effective operation in an emergency.
