Dehidrogenázok, often translated as dehydrogenases, are a large group of enzymes that catalyze oxidation-reduction reactions, specifically the removal of hydrogen atoms from organic molecules. The general reaction catalyzed by a dehydrogenase involves the transfer of a hydride ion (H-) and a proton (H+) from a substrate molecule to an electron acceptor, which is typically a coenzyme like NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) or NADP+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate), or a flavin cofactor such as FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide) or FMN (flavin mononucleotide).
