Decoherencia is a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics that explains how quantum systems lose their characteristic superposition and entanglement properties when they interact with their environment. In essence, decoherence is the process by which a quantum system transitions into a classical state.

Quantum systems, such as electrons or photons, can exist in multiple states simultaneously, a phenomenon known as superposition. When these systems become entangled, their fates are linked, meaning the state of one instantaneously influences the state of the other, regardless of distance. Decoherence is not a violation of quantum mechanics; rather, it is a consequence of the interaction between a quantum system and a larger, classical environment. It plays a crucial role in understanding the quantum-to-classical transition and is a significant challenge in the development of quantum computers, as it can cause errors in quantum computations.
