dayglow
Dayglow is a term used in atmospheric science to refer to the daytime airglow—the faint luminescence of Earth's upper atmosphere produced by photochemical reactions driven by solar radiation. During daylight hours, molecules such as O2 and other species become excited and emit light, creating a subtle glow that can be detected by instruments but is usually overwhelmed by scattered sunlight for observers on the ground. Dayglow is most noticeable in the upper mesosphere and thermosphere and varies with solar activity, atmospheric composition, and viewing geometry. The phenomenon is distinct from nightglow, which occurs after sunset due to different chemical processes. Dayglow observations contribute to understanding atmospheric chemistry, temperature structure, and dynamics, and are used in satellite remote sensing and spectroscopic studies.
Dayglow is also the stage name of Sloan Struble, an American indie pop musician from Texas. Begun
