csuklón

Csukló is the Hungarian term for the elbow, the joint that connects the upper arm to the forearm. The form csuklón is used in locative contexts to mean “on the elbow” or “at the elbow,” for example when describing location or injury in medical or everyday language.

Anatomy and joints

The elbow complex involves three joints: the humero-ulnar joint (between the humerus and ulna), the humero-radial joint (between the humerus and radius), and the proximal radioulnar joint (between the radius and ulna near the forearm). The elbow functions primarily as a hinge joint allowing flexion and extension, while rotation of the forearm (pronation and supination) is enabled mainly by the proximal radioulnar joint and its surrounding ligaments.

Support and movement

Stability is provided by several ligaments, including the ulnar collateral ligament on the inner side and the radial collateral ligament on the outer side, as well as the annular ligament that surrounds the head of the radius. Muscles around the elbow control movement and forearm rotation; key players include the biceps brachii and brachialis for flexion, the triceps brachii for extension, and forearm muscles such as the pronators and supinators.

Clinical relevance

Elbow injuries and conditions commonly affect csukló-related structures. These include olecranon fractures, elbow dislocations, and tendinopathies such as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis). Diagnosis typically involves clinical examination and imaging such as X-ray or MRI. Treatment ranges from rest, ice, and physical therapy to injections or surgical intervention in more severe cases.
