császárda

Császárda is a locality in the western part of the city of Pécs, Hungary. It is situated on the southern slopes of the Mecsek Mountains. Historically, the area was known for its vineyards and agricultural use. The name "Császárda" is believed to derive from the historical presence of imperial or royal vineyards, possibly dating back to the Ottoman period or earlier.

In the 20th century, especially after World War II, Császárda underwent significant transformation with the development of new residential areas and infrastructure. It became a more urbanized district, attracting new residents to Pécs. The area is characterized by a mix of older, traditional houses and newer apartment buildings.

Despite its urbanization, remnants of its past agricultural character can still be observed in some parts, with scattered gardens and the proximity to the Mecsek's natural landscape. Császárda is connected to the city center by public transportation and is a residential area for many working in Pécs. It is also notable for its elevated position, offering some panoramic views of the surrounding region. The district is part of the larger administrative structure of Pécs.
