A crupper is a piece of horse tack that is looped around the horse's dock and attached to the back of the saddle. Its primary purpose is to prevent the saddle from sliding forward onto the horse's shoulders, particularly when traveling downhill or when the horse is working hard.

Cruppers are typically made from leather or nylon and consist of a strap that goes around the dock, a connecting strap that runs between the horse's hind legs, and a buckle or ring that attaches to the rear of the saddle. They come in various styles, from simple, single straps to more elaborate designs with padding for the horse's comfort.

The use of a crupper is common in certain disciplines and activities, such as driving, pack riding, and in areas with steep terrain. While effective in preventing saddle slippage, it is important that a crupper is fitted correctly. If too tight, it can cause discomfort and chafing to the horse. Conversely, if too loose, it will not provide the intended support. Some horses may also be sensitive to the feel of a crupper, and their use is not universal.
