crossstriation
Crossstriation refers to the microscopic, alternating light and dark bands that are visible in certain types of muscle tissue, most notably skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. These striations are a distinguishing characteristic of striated muscle and are not present in smooth muscle. The pattern of crossstriation arises from the highly organized arrangement of the contractile proteins, actin and myosin, within the muscle fibers.
The fundamental contractile unit of striated muscle is the sarcomere. Within each sarcomere, actin and myosin
The precise alignment of these sarcomeres along the length of the muscle fiber creates the visible crossstriation
