corrientes

Corrientes is a term used for two related places in Argentina: the city of Corrientes and the surrounding province of Corrientes. The city is the capital of Corrientes Province, situated in the northeast of the country on the western bank of the Paraná River, opposite the city of Resistencia in Chaco Province. It functions as an administrative, commercial, and cultural center for the region and serves as a gateway to the Iberá wetlands. The urban area features riverfront promenades, historic neighborhoods and a culture influenced by Guaraní and Spanish heritage. The annual Carnival of Corrientes is one of the country’s most renowned festivals.
