A condensater is a device or component designed to facilitate condensation. Condensation is the process by which a substance in a gaseous state changes to a liquid state due to a decrease in temperature and/or an increase in pressure. Condensaters are utilized in various industrial and domestic applications where the conversion of gas to liquid is a necessary step in a process.

In the context of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, a condensater, more commonly referred to as a condenser, is a crucial heat exchanger. It is responsible for releasing heat from the refrigerant. As the hot, high-pressure refrigerant gas flows through the condenser coils, it comes into contact with a cooler medium, typically air or water. This heat transfer causes the refrigerant to condense into a high-pressure liquid, allowing the refrigeration cycle to continue.

Another common application is in steam power generation. Steam condensers are used to condense exhaust steam from turbines back into water. This process increases the efficiency of the steam turbine by creating a lower back pressure. The condensed water, known as condensate, can then be pumped back to the boiler to be reheated and turned into steam again, completing the cycle. In domestic settings, a condensater might be found in a high-efficiency natural gas furnace, where it captures latent heat from the exhaust gases, causing them to condense into water, which is then drained away. This increases the overall efficiency of the furnace.
