CommaSeparated refers to a data representation in which multiple values are joined by a comma. The term is often used to describe comma-separated values, or CSV, a simple text-based data interchange format.

In CSV, each line represents a record, and fields within the line are separated by commas. Fields may be enclosed in quotes to allow commas, quotes, or line breaks inside the field.

RFC 4180 provides widely used guidance for CSV, including rules for quoting and escaping, such as doubling quotes inside a quoted field.

CommaSeparated data is easy to generate and parse, is human-readable, and is broadly supported by spreadsheets, databases, programming languages, and many web APIs.

Limitations include ambiguity when fields contain embedded delimiters or line breaks, and locale differences in delimiter choice. Alternatives using semicolons or tabs are common in such cases.
