Cementmortels is a term sometimes used to describe cement-based mortars used in masonry, plastering, and repair work. In standard usage the more common term is cement mortar, a binding material made from Portland cement, fine aggregate (sand), and water, with optional admixtures. Cementmortels can be produced in a range of formulations to meet specific structural and aesthetic requirements.

Composition and variants typically include cement-sand mortars, which are the most common for binding bricks and blocks; cement-lime mortars, which offer improved workability and vapor permeability; and polymer-modified mortars, which provide greater adhesion, flexibility, and reduced shrinkage. Some mixes incorporate pozzolanic materials such as fly ash or silica fume, or supplementary cementitious materials to influence strength and durability. Admixtures may be added to adjust workability, set time, water retention, and frost resistance.

Properties and performance depend on mix design. Key characteristics include initial and final strength, bond with substrates, cohesiveness, water retention, and resistance to water ingress and freeze–thaw cycles. Proper curing is essential to minimize cracking. Cementmortels are designed to meet regional standards and can be specified for particular applications, such as load-bearing masonry, renderings, or tile setting. Quality control often involves workability tests, slump or flow tests, bond tests, and mortar cube or prism strength tests.

Environmental and safety considerations include the energy-intensive production of cement and potential dust exposure during handling. Use of supplementary cementitious materials and recycled aggregates can reduce environmental impact. Cementmortels should be handled with appropriate PPE and in accordance with relevant building codes.
