Bråksexpansion, a term originating from Swedish, translates to "fraction expansion" in English. It refers to the process of increasing the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same non-zero integer without changing the overall value of the fraction. This is a fundamental concept in arithmetic, particularly when working with fractions.

The core principle behind bråksexpansion is that multiplying or dividing both the numerator and the denominator by the same number is equivalent to multiplying or dividing by 1. For example, if you have the fraction 1/2, you can expand it by multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 3 to get (1*3)/(2*3) = 3/6. Both 1/2 and 3/6 represent the same proportion of a whole.

This technique is crucial for several reasons. Primarily, it allows for the comparison and addition/subtraction of fractions that have different denominators.
