Borgarbyggð is a municipality located in western Iceland, in the Borgarfjörður region. It was established in 1994 through the unification of several smaller communities, including Borgarnes, and the surrounding rural areas. The municipality covers a significant geographical area, encompassing diverse landscapes from coastal plains to mountainous regions.

The primary settlement and administrative center of Borgarbyggð is Borgarnes, a town situated on the western shore of Borgarfjörður. Borgarnes is a significant hub for commerce, services, and transportation in the region. Historically, the area has been important for settlement in Iceland, with many sagas and historical events taking place in and around Borgarfjörður.

The economy of Borgarbyggð is largely based on agriculture, fishing, and tourism. The region's natural beauty, including waterfalls such as Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, and the scenic Þingvellir National Park (though administratively separate, it is geographically close and a major draw for visitors to the wider region), attracts a considerable number of tourists throughout the year. The municipality also has a growing industrial sector.

Borgarbyggð is connected to other parts of Iceland by a well-developed road network, including the Ring Road (Route 1).
