Bladvæv, also known as the mesentery, is a double-layered fold of peritoneum that attaches to the outer surface of an organ and the inner surface of the abdominal wall. It serves several functions, including providing a pathway for blood vessels and nerves to enter and exit the organ, supporting the organ within the abdominal cavity, and aiding in the movement of the organ during respiration and digestion. The mesentery is particularly well-developed in the small intestine, where it is known as the mesentery proper, and is absent in organs that are retroperitoneal, meaning they are located behind the peritoneum.

The mesentery is composed of two layers of peritoneum: the outer layer, which is continuous with the abdominal wall, and the inner layer, which is continuous with the organ. Between these two layers is a layer of fat and connective tissue that provides additional support and protection to the organ. The mesentery also contains blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerves that supply the organ.

In some cases, the mesentery can become twisted or adhered to nearby structures, leading to complications such as intestinal obstruction or bowel ischemia. These conditions can be surgically corrected to restore normal function and prevent further complications.

Bladvæv plays a crucial role in the proper functioning of the abdominal organs and is an important structure to consider in the diagnosis and treatment of abdominal conditions.
