Barrier-to-autointegration factor (BAF) is a small, highly conserved DNA-binding protein. It binds double-stranded DNA without sequence specificity and helps organize chromatin. It forms dimers and links chromatin to the nuclear envelope by interacting with LEM-domain proteins, thereby aiding nuclear envelope reassembly after mitosis. BAF activity is regulated by phosphorylation, notably by VRK1 kinase. Beyond its structural role, BAF influences genome integrity and can modulate innate immune sensing by restraining the DNA sensor cGAS. Mutations in the BANF1 gene, which encodes BAF, cause disorders such as Nestor-Guillermo Progeria Syndrome, underscoring its importance in cell division and chromatin organization.

Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is the air component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
