automaattikäynnistimestä
Automaattikäynnistin, commonly known as a starter motor in English, is an electric motor used to rotate an internal combustion engine to start it. Most vehicles use a starter motor, though some older or smaller engines might employ manual cranking. The starter motor is activated by the ignition switch, which is often a key or a button. When the ignition is turned on, a small amount of current energizes a solenoid. This solenoid then engages a gear, typically a pinion gear, with a larger gear on the engine's flywheel. Simultaneously, the solenoid closes a high-current circuit, allowing power from the car battery to flow to the starter motor. The powerful electric motor spins the pinion gear, which in turn rotates the flywheel, turning the engine's crankshaft. Once the engine starts and runs on its own power, the ignition switch is released, disengaging the starter motor and its gear. The starter motor is a critical component for the operation of most modern vehicles.
