Atingo is a small municipality located in the Oriental Department of Colombia, situated near the Magdalena River. The settlement emerged in the late 19th century during the expansion of agricultural frontiers in the region. According to the 2018 census, the municipality has an estimated population of roughly 8,500 residents, with the largest concentration of inhabitants living in the central urban zone and the remainder spread across surrounding rural hamlets.
