Atmosfärt is a neologism used primarily in speculative science discussions and worldbuilding to refer to the set of atmospheric properties that define how a planet feels, looks, and behaves climatically. Unlike the generic term atmosphere, atmosfärt emphasizes the observable, perceptual, and radiative aspects of a planet's gaseous envelope, including composition, pressure–temperature profile, clouds and aerosols, and optical properties that determine sky color, transparency, and energy balance.

Definition and scope: It encompasses chemical constituents (major and trace gases), phase state, vertical structure, circulation patterns, humidity, aerosols, and cloud microphysics; radiative transfer, scattering, and greenhouse effects; as well as the sensory cues associated with an atmosphere such as air density and color. Variability is integral: diurnal cycles, weather systems, seasonal changes, and long-term climate trends shape atmosfärt.

Measurement and modeling: In real science, related data come from spectroscopy, in situ sampling, weather stations, and satellite observations; atmosfärt uses analogous methods but centers on how surfaces and observers perceive atmospheric behavior. In exoplanet studies, the term is used more in speculative or descriptive contexts to discuss which atmospheric properties can be inferred from limited data.

Applications and status: The term is common in fiction, worldbuilding, or speculative climate discussions. It is not an established scientific term in mainstream climatology; standard terminology remains atmosphere and atmospheric science.
