An arzobispo, or archbishop in English, is a senior ecclesiastical leader within certain Christian denominations, most notably the Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Eastern Orthodox churches. The title signifies a bishop of a metropolitan see, an important city or region within an ecclesiastical province. While archbishops hold episcopal authority over their own dioceses, they also have a degree of oversight and certain rights concerning other bishops within their province.
The role of an archbishop is distinct from that of a cardinal, although many cardinals are also
