APRU, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, is a non-profit international organization comprising leading research universities in the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1997 to foster collaboration among major universities and to address regional and global challenges through research, education, and policy dialogue. The alliance has grown to include more than 50 member institutions from countries across the Pacific Rim, including universities in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Canada, the United States, and other parts of the region. Members pursue a shared commitment to advancing higher education, promoting cross-border collaboration, and expanding opportunities for students and scholars.

APRU activities center on the development and management of joint research projects, mobility programs for students and faculty, and policy-focused dialogues among university leaders and policymakers. The organization operates through thematic networks and programs in areas such as global health, sustainable development, urban resilience, energy and resources, disaster risk reduction, and other priority domains. The Secretariat coordinates programs, coordinates regular meetings, and facilitates collaboration across member institutions, including an annual presidents meeting to set strategic directions.

Outcomes of APRU include collaborative publications, shared data resources, and policy briefs that inform public policy and higher education practice across member regions. The organization aims to strengthen regional ties, contribute to regional development, and advance science and innovation through international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
