Antitestképzés, often translated as antibody production or antibody generation, refers to the process by which an organism's immune system produces antibodies. Antibodies are Y-shaped proteins produced by specialized white blood cells called B lymphocytes. They are a crucial part of the adaptive immune system, playing a vital role in identifying and neutralizing foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens.

The process begins when a B cell encounters an antigen, which is a molecule typically found on the surface of a pathogen. This encounter activates the B cell, leading to its proliferation and differentiation. Some of these activated B cells develop into plasma cells, which are essentially antibody factories. Plasma cells secrete large quantities of specific antibodies that are designed to bind to the encountered antigen. This binding can neutralize the pathogen directly, mark it for destruction by other immune cells, or activate other components of the immune system, like the complement system.

Another important outcome of B cell activation is the generation of memory B cells. These cells remain in the body for a long time, allowing for a faster and more robust immune response if the same antigen is encountered again in the future. This principle of antitestképzés is the basis for vaccination, where weakened or inactivated forms of pathogens, or specific antigens, are introduced into the body to stimulate antibody production without causing disease. This prepares the immune system to fight off actual infections effectively.
