antiD0

antiD0, usually written anti-D0, is the antiparticle of the D0 meson in the charm meson family. It has quark content anti-charm up quark (cbar u) and carries electric charge 0, with charm quantum number C = -1. As the CP-conjugate partner of D0 (which is c ubar), antiD0 shares many properties with D0 but exhibits opposite flavor.

In experiments, antiD0 mesons have a mass of about 1.865 GeV/c^2 and a mean lifetime of roughly 410 femtoseconds. They decay via the weak interaction into final states such as K+ pi-, among others. The decays of D0 and antiD0 and the phenomenon of D0–antiD0 mixing (where a D0 can transform into an antiD0 and vice versa) are important for studying flavor physics. The mixing parameters x and y, which quantify mass and decay-width differences, are small and measured values provide tests of the Standard Model and constraints on new physics. CP violation in the charm sector, including processes involving antiD0, is predicted to be small within the Standard Model but is an area of active experimental investigation.

Production of antiD0 mesons occurs in high-energy collisions, such as electron-positron annihilation and hadron collisions. Detection and flavor tagging often rely on identifying the accompanying decay products or using decays like D*+ → antiD0 π+ to determine the original flavor. As the antiparticle of D0, antiD0 is central to studies of charm dynamics, CP symmetry, and meson mixing in particle physics.
