Ansiotyky is a term sometimes used colloquially to refer to anxiety-reducing medications. These drugs, more formally known as anxiolytics or tranquilizers, are primarily prescribed to treat anxiety disorders. They work by affecting the central nervous system to produce a calming effect. The most common class of anxiolytics are benzodiazepines, which enhance the effect of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Other types of anxiolytics include buspirone and certain antidepressants like SSRIs and SNRIs, which are often used for long-term anxiety management.
