Anonimo is a term used in several Romance languages to denote anonymity. In Spanish, the adjective and noun form anónimo (masc) and anónima (fem) describe a person whose name is unknown or deliberately withheld, or a work whose author is not disclosed. In Italian, anonimo serves a similar function, while in Portuguese the form is anônimo.

Etymology traces anonimo to the Latin anonymus, which itself comes from the Greek ανώνυμος (ánōnymos), meaning “without a name.” The word has spread through many languages with related variants that retain the same core meaning.
