Anism refers to a philosophical concept that posits the existence of entities or properties that are not reducible to or derivable from any other fundamental entities or properties. It suggests a certain level of irreducibility in reality, meaning that some aspects of existence cannot be explained or understood in terms of simpler components. This can apply to various domains, such as the nature of consciousness, the existence of moral values, or the fundamental laws of physics.

In the context of consciousness, animism might suggest that subjective experience, or qualia, cannot be fully explained by the physical processes of the brain alone. In ethics, it could propose that certain moral truths or obligations are foundational and not derived from utility or social contracts. Within physics, an animistic view might imply that certain forces or particles are fundamental building blocks that do not arise from a more basic underlying structure.

The core idea is that at some level, there are things that simply *are*, without a deeper explanation for their existence. This contrasts with reductionist philosophies, which aim to break down phenomena into their smallest, most basic constituent parts and explain everything in terms of those parts. Anism, therefore, embraces a form of fundamental existence that resists complete dissection.
