Angiográfia, a medical imaging technique, is used to visualize the inside of blood vessels. This diagnostic procedure helps doctors identify abnormalities in the arteries and veins, such as blockages, narrowings, aneurysms, or malformations. It is typically performed by a radiologist or interventional cardiologist.

The process involves injecting a contrast dye into the bloodstream, which makes the blood vessels clearly visible on an X-ray or other imaging equipment. A catheter, a thin flexible tube, is usually inserted into an artery, often in the groin or arm, and guided to the specific area of interest. The contrast agent is then injected through the catheter.

Different types of angiography exist, including cerebral angiography for the brain, coronary angiography for the heart, and peripheral angiography for the limbs. It can be used to diagnose conditions like stroke, heart attack, peripheral artery disease, and to guide minimally invasive treatments. Following the procedure, patients are often monitored for a short period before being discharged. Potential risks, though generally low, can include allergic reactions to the contrast dye, bleeding at the insertion site, or damage to the blood vessel.
