Angiografi, also known as arteriografi, is a medical imaging technique used to visualize the inside of blood vessels. It is primarily used to detect blockages, narrowing, aneurysms, and other abnormalities within arteries and veins. The procedure involves injecting a contrast dye into the bloodstream, which then travels through the vessels. X-rays are taken as the dye circulates, highlighting the blood vessels against the surrounding tissues.

The process typically begins with a small incision, usually in the groin or arm, to access a major artery. A thin, flexible tube called a catheter is then guided through the artery to the area of interest. Once in place, the contrast dye is injected through the catheter. This dye makes the blood vessels appear white on the X-ray images, allowing radiologists to identify any potential problems.

Angiografi plays a crucial role in diagnosing and planning treatment for a variety of conditions, including heart disease, stroke, peripheral artery disease, and venous malformations. The information obtained from an angiogram helps guide interventions such as angioplasty, stenting, or surgery.
